I lived in the same house for 32 year! Yes, I actually bought the house that I grew up in. But eventually it was time for a change and I moved to Washington State. I have worked as a real estate appraiser since 1986, with the first part of my career focusing on residential appraisals. Since 1996 I have been working for a commercial appraisal firm located in Tacoma, Washington.
Before my 40th birthday I decided that I wanted to complete the Chicago Marathon (2001). High jumpers are not known for being runners so let me tell you, the months of training were tough. I kept telling myself after every long run that I could eat about 4 Dove Icecream bars because of all the time I put in. Needless to say, I gained weight during the process.
The day of the race finally came and my brother Bob promised he would be waiting with a beer at the end of the marathon. Can you believe that was motivation enough to keep going? At mile 23 there were some spectators offering beer to the runners and I was almost ready to join them and say the heck with the rest of the race. But I am proud to say that after all those months of training, I finished the race and Bob was still waiting for me in the finish area with a beer. Wonder how many he had while he waited? Rumor has it that Manny Perryman had also run the race in a pretty good time! Way to go Manny!
